Abstract

Zusammenfassung Mit dem Antritt der Nachfolge Hilberts in Göttingen war die Beziehung Hermann Weyls zur Schweiz, zu Zürich und zur ETH nicht zu Ende; vielmehr blieb sie zeit seines Lebens eng und freundschaftlich. Sein Sohn Michael sagte dazu in seiner Rede an der Feier aus Anlass des 100. Geburtstages seines Vaters:1 „1930 verliess Hermann Zürich […] Aber an Zürich blieb er hängen, mit einem Teil seines Wesens blieb er dort verankert. “ In einer Ansprache, welche Hermann Weyl im Herbst 1930 in Göttingen an die Mathematische Vereinigung richtete, der er selbst als Student angehört hatte, beschrieb er sein Verhältnis zur Schweiz und zu Zürich wie folgt:2
