Abstract

Zusammenfassung Diesem Wort des Mathematikhistorikers E. J. Dijksterhuis ist — zumindest auf die Gegenwart bezogen — im wesentlichen zuzustimmen. Die Behauptung der „Zufälligkeit“ (accidens) historischer Interessen von Naturwissenschaftlern und Mathematikern läßt sich aber wohl mit historischen Argumenten etwas qualifizieren, indem man den Begriff des „Interesses“ in einem tieferen Sinne interpretiert. „Zufälligkeit“ sollte deshalb zunächst nur so gedeutet werden, daß sich Wissenschaftler selten aktiv mit der Geschichte ihres Faches beschäftigen.
