Abstract

Zusammenfassung Bei der Behandlung historischer mathematischer Probleme in Vorlesungen oder Seminaren stößt man immer wieder auf die Schwierigkeit, daß manche Sätze mit sog. „Mausefallenbeweisen“ bewiesen werden — Beweisen, bei denen man zwar jeden einzelnen Schritt einsieht, aber nicht durchschaut, wie der Autor zu seinen Überlegungen gekommen ist. Man hat daher zum Schluß den Eindruck, in eine Falle gegangen zu sein; daher der Name.1 Zu dieser Art von Beweisen gehören die indirekten, die voraussetzen, daß die Behauptung zunächst heuristisch auf anderem Weg gefunden wurde. Dazu gehört aber auch eine Reihe von klassischen Konstruktionen bekannter Mathematiker, bei denen nicht unmittelbar klar ist, weshalb bestimmte Hilfslinien und Überlegungen eingeführt werden. Erst am Ende des Beweises stellt sich heraus, daß der eingeschlagene Weg die gestellte Aufgabe löst.
