Abstract

Zusammenfassung Leonhard EULER war nicht nur der führende Mathematiker des 18. Jahrhunderts, er gehört auch zu den wissenschaftlich produktivsten Gelehrten aller Zeiten. Rund 70 Bände umfaßt die Gesamtausgabe seiner Bücher und Druckschriften, die vom Euler-Komitee der Schweizerischen Naturforschenden Gesellschaft seit 1911 in drei Reihen herausgegeben wird. 1Gegliedert nach Sachgebieten, ermöglichen diese “Opera Omnia” heute einen leichten Zugang zu fast allen von EULER publizierten Arbeiten — die wenigen noch verbliebenen Lücken dürften in den nächsten Jahren geschlossen werden. EULERs zahlentheoretische Untersuchungen sind in den Bänden 1–5 der ersten Serie der “Opera Omnia” abgedruckt, deren letzter 1944 erschien. Allerdings enthält Bd. 1 EULERs “Vollständige Anleitung zur Algebra”, bei der allein der Schlußabschnitt der Diophantischen Analysis gewidmet ist. So umfassen die zahlentheoretischen Studien, rein quantitativ betrachtet, rund 6% von EULERs Publikationen.
