Abstract

Zusammenfassung Wenn diese Überschrift ein wenig an Alpenmilch Schokolade erinnert, so ist dies (k)ein Zufall. Wir erinnern hier an die Wohltaten, die in der Wissenschaft aus den Leistungen anderer erwachsen. Die hingebungsvolle und ehrliche Arbeit gehört zweifellos zu den wünschenswerten Tugenden des schaffenden Wissenschaftlers, auch des Mathematikers. Begleiterscheinungen wie Talent, Ausdauer, und ein wenig Glück gelten ebenfalls als förderlich. Jedoch sind diese Segnungen nicht gerecht verteilt, und allzugern entziehen sich die entscheidenden Komponenten dem inbrünstigen subjektiven Wollen. Allgemein wird erwartet, dass das harmonische Zusammenwirken der erwähnten Gaben nach einiger Zeit zu interessanten, schönen, oder wichtigen Resultaten führt. Obwohl der materielle Lohn meist bescheiden ausfällt, so bleibt dem Wissenschaftler die Befriedigung seines Forscherdrangs, sowie die Hoffnung, Bleibendes zu schaffen, das sich mit seinem Namen verbindet.
