Some Conclusions

In: The Vexing Case of Igor Shafarevich, a Russian Political Thinker

Abstract

Upon beginning this study, I suggested that Igor Shafarevich’s image in contemporary scholarship is distorted. I argued that his words and deeds are frequently interpreted in ways which have little to do with his own intentions. I also claimed that it is vital to get him right. Since the conversations in which he is involved concern central issues in the relations between Russia and the West, mishearing, misinterpreting and mistaking him for something he is not is counterproductive and symptomatic of misunderstandings much greater than those concerning him only.
