Abstract

This chapter examines the reconfiguration of media value chainsMedia value chain by AI automation, arguing that algorithmic intelligence is becoming infrastructural across news, entertainment, advertising, and platforms. It maps four shifts across the content lifecycle. First, generative models industrialize multi-format production—automating reportage and copywriting (Heliograf, ChatGPT), synthetic video (Synthesia/Runway), and voice-based audio (Descript)—to expand output volume, stylistic variability, and segment-level personalization. Second, post-production is recast through machine learning (Adobe Sensei, NVIDIA Omniverse) that delivers scene detection, smart reframing, color and sound correction, and accelerated CGI/VFX rendering, converting technical bottlenecks into computational services while redirecting human effort toward creative direction. Third, distribution becomes dynamically curated by recommender systems (Meta, YouTube, Google Discover) and syndication networks (Taboola), optimizing placement and timing via real-time engagement prediction and making reach contingent on algorithmic compatibility and metadata strategy. Fourth, analytics and monetization converge through predictive insight (Chartbeat, Parse.ly), personalized subscriptions (Netflix), and dynamic pricing (Spotify), turning audience behavior into an active economic lever. Synthesizing these domains, the chapter proposes an end-to-end “automation lifecycle” framework linking efficiency gains to risks—authorship ambiguity, authenticity erosion, labor displacement, and governance challenges—and concludes that capability building in data, model integration, and ethical controls will determine long-term competitive viability in algorithmically mediated ecosystems.
