Abstract

Building upon some of the previous social science scholarship on virtues, I explore how a virtues-based approach in management can challenge the technical imperative and assist in the long-term prevention of societal and organizational injustice. The limits of technical values-based ethics and compliance programs are explored through a virtues lens. Drawing on organizational ethics, philosophy, and theology, implications for infusing virtues into management are discussed with a particular focus on smart technology governance and control. Some specific implications for leadership training and development using a virtues framework are also discussed.
