Abstract

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) represents a bold step towards economic integration across Africa. Its secretariat, headquartered in Accra, Ghana, plays a unique and strategic role in implementing this agreement. This chapter examines the background of the AfCFTA and its envisioned role in shaping Ghana’s economic trajectory. The chapter analyses key takeaways from Ghana’s participation in the AfCFTA, focusing on the potential benefits, including enhanced intra-African trade, job creation, and industrial development. It also highlights emerging opportunities for Ghanaian businesses while confronting critical obstacles, including infrastructure deficits, regulatory disparities, and transitional costs. Drawing on empirical data and authoritative sources, this chapter provides a detailed analysis of the AfCFTA’s key pathways in Ghana, offering insight into how the country can position itself as a significant beneficiary of continental integration.
