Abstract

This chapter explores the transformative trajectory of AI in accounting and finance, focusing on autonomous agents, real-time monitoring systems, ERP-integrated AI platforms, and generative AI co-pilots. It examines how automation is reshaping traditional workflows by shifting periodic processes toward continuous, data-driven operations. The chapter discusses evolving professional roles as routine tasks become automated and human expertise increasingly centers on oversight, interpretation, and strategic judgment. It identifies emerging competencies—including AI fluency, prompt engineering, data analytics, systems integration, and automation governance—as essential skills for future practitioners. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of continuous learning, professional adaptability, and critical evaluation to remain relevant in rapidly advancing AI ecosystems. By synthesizing technological innovation with professional evolution, this chapter positions AI not as a replacement for accountants and finance professionals, but as a collaborative force that elevates their analytical and strategic contributions.
