Abstract

Requirement decomposition is the process for decomposing requirements and the physical system into subrequirements defined over subsystems of the physical system. This process involves the multiple processes highlighted in Fig. 8.1 and discussed in this section. Consider the following hypothetical mission capability statement for a Midwest Hyperloop: Hyperloop shall transport scheduled passengers between Chicago, Illinois and South Bend, Indiana in 20(T),30 (O) minutes, between South Bend, Indiana and Detroit, Michigan within 30(T),40(O) minutes. Detroit, Michigan and Cleveland, Ohio within 30(T),40(O) minutes, between Cleveland, Ohio and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania within 30(T)40(O) and between Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and New York City, New York within 30(T)40(O) minutes. Hyperloop shall schedule passenger trips. Hyperloop shall provide passengers access to passengers ten minutes prior to scheduled departure.
