Abstract

The superyacht industry is growing. Accompanying this growth is increasing attention being paid to the industry’s sustainability. Simply stated, superyachting has become more acutely influenced and defined by environmental and social pressures. With sustainability now a more central consideration of individuals purchasing yachts or chartering them, delivering sustainability has presented a number of challenges for the industry. The chapter sets out a number of these challenges, including how to quantify a superyacht’s environmental impact as well as how innovations can help (and are already helping) the industry transition to a more sustainable position. The chapter provides insight into the collective co-creation approach to analysis and innovation being undertaken for greater sustainability. This insight includes the role of owners, manufacturers, and industry associations.
