Abstract

Beyond technical expertise and project efficiency, leadership in the construction field is shaped by individual strengths that drive success in complex, dynamic environments. This chapter presents a study responding to the growing need for leadership approaches that leverage such strengths. Through qualitative narrative analysis of 21 interviews, the study investigates how strengths emerge in managers’ leadership narratives. The chapter concludes by illustrating how the results align with the wide conception of strengths. By examining these narratives, the study offers deeper insights into the role of strengths in construction leadership and identifies practical implications for leadership development. The findings show how strengths-spotting can reshape perceptions of construction professionals and foster well-rounded graduates, workers, and managers by integrating hard and soft skills into both educational curricula and workplace practices. The chapter concludes with critical reflections and actionable recommendations for embedding strength-based development across construction leadership.
