Abstract

While nearly every organization claims to be innovative, only a small fraction possess the capabilities necessary to systematically discover valuable opportunities and execute them effectively in the market. This chapter examines the outlook and characteristics of those genuinely innovative companies. Moreover, it presents a thorough analysis of the most common failure factors—it explains the structural and cultural barriers along with blind spots and leadership gaps that often prevent companies from achieving innovation success. A central concept of this chapter is the Innovation Maturity Index—a comprehensive framework for assessing an organization’s innovation readiness in terms of capabilities, culture, and organizational design. It enables leaders to objectively assess their company’s position on the innovation readiness spectrum and develop strategies to enhance their ability to innovate.
