Abstract

This paper focuses on the implementation of strategies and actions related to sustainability and sustainable development in state universities of Paraná, with a particular emphasis on the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into university practices. The main objective of this research is to analyze the current status of SDG implementation in seven state universities of Paraná, covering areas of management, teaching, research, and extension. The study aims to identify challenges, strategies, and suggestions for improvement in promoting sustainability within these institutions. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing content analysis of Institutional Development Plans (IDP) and conducting semi-structured interviews with university representatives. The data analysis followed the systematic and objective techniques. The analysis categories defined for this study were SDG strategies and implementation, partnerships and collaborations, and challenges and suggestions for improvements. The analysis revealed varying levels of integration of the SDGs in the IDPs of the institutions, with limited mention of the SDGs in some cases. Challenges such as cultural resistance, lack of clear policies, and insufficient resources were identified, along with strategies being implemented to align with the SDGs. The study underscores the importance of enhancing awareness, engagement, and coordination within universities to effectively promote sustainability and achieve the SDGs.
