Abstract

This chapter examines the role of resilience strategies in promoting the sustainability of small businesses. Small businesses play a significant role to the economies of the world. These businesses are the backbone of most developed and developing economies. Small businesses are essential source and foundation for developing a country’s economy. Resilience is defined as a business's capacity to adapt, grow, and endure during crisis, often seen in increased profits, expansion, or innovative practices. In contrast, sustainability involves maintaining business operations over the long term without compromising future needs, necessitating entrepreneurial skills and innovation. The chapter underscores some major sources of small businesses’ vulnerability and highlights some resilience strategies that can be leveraged upon to mitigate the associated vulnerability. In conclusion, resilience strategies are essential for the long-term survival and prosperity of small businesses, helping them to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing environment.
