Abstract

While the sustainability of fashion clothing and textiles has attracted increasing research attention, the design of fashion retail stores is less well known. The need for more ethical practices and sustainable use of materials in the store design surrounding have become increasingly important, Although some brands have adopted the concept of sustainability many fashion retailers tend to lack the knowledge and investment to meet the environmental concerns surrounding resource usage. Furthermore, the application of the circular economy concept to sustainable design strategies involves many stakeholders and participants that require careful management. This chapter provides the background to understanding the principles of sustainable store design and explores the implications of the problems for retailers and the effect on sustainable fashion retail design.
