Abstract

This chapter comprehensively examines the role of AI in supporting e-commerce logistics, focusing on the fashion industry. The analysis begins with considering the evolution of e-commerce from early electronic data interchange systems to digital platforms, highlighting how this transformation has fundamentally changed business dynamics and customer relationships. The discussion looks at the unique characteristics of e-commerce in the fashion industry, including high volatility, short product lifecycles, and the transition from traditional seasonal patterns to fast fashion models. The chapter highlights how AI and digital agents have revolutionized various aspects of e-commerce logistics in the fashion industry, from demand forecasting and inventory management to personalized customer experiences and efficient delivery routing. Much of the analysis focuses on the specific challenges and adaptations of luxury fashion brands in e-commerce, including implementing omnichannel strategies and integrating advanced technologies such as RFID and robotics. The chapter looks at critical aspects of reverse logistics and highlights the importance of efficient returns processes in maintaining customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. Finally, the chapter emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices and circular economic principles in fashion e-commerce logistics. It recognizes the industry’s impact on the environment and the need for innovative solutions to address these challenges while meeting evolving customer expectations.
