Abstract

Chapter 5 explores Phase 3 (Balanced Value Solutions) and the complexities of building fairness in contractual agreements. With trust being the essence of collaboration and value-driven relationships, this section defines fairness as a harmonious exchange of objectives, market insights, performance, and value expectations, leading to an equitable distribution of risks, efforts, and rewards. We consider factors such as leveraging, value interpretation, fear, and intent for value balance—all of which shape the foundation of agreement fairness. This chapter explores challenges arising from inflexibility due to organizational design, team members’ knowledge and skill levels, and individual mindsets. It offers a successful approach to reaching balanced value solutions that create win-win scenarios. Through three additional real-life case studies, we illustrate the profound impact of fairness (or the lack of it) in co-creating sustainable relational contracts. The solutions offered in each case provide guidance on how to optimally prepare yourself to create a balanced value solution for your relational contract.
