Abstract

This research presents a comparative statistical analysis of the port productivity of containerized cargo at the three main deep-sea ports on the Mexican Pacific coast: Ensenada, Baja California; Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán; and Manzanillo, Colima. The analysis covers the period from 2013 to 2022, with the aim of identifying trends in productivity over time. One of the main objectives of this study that stands out is to examine the operating modes of these ports before, during, and after the pandemic. Since the emergence of COVID-19, the ports have seen changes in their productivity levels. These changes will be illustrated in graphs described throughout the study, which will show how port activity evolved—some ports experienced increased operations, while others saw a decline. Finally, the study will explore the future of seaports based on the lessons learned during the pandemic, particularly focusing on Mexican ports, and highlighting the changes in their behavior.
