Abstract

This chapter delves into an avant-garde sustainability development and carbon accounting model leveraging emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain. The current trajectory clearly indicates a rapid and even accelerated shift towards a sustainable and carbon–neutral ecosystem. Effective governance, underpinned by robust technological backing, is vital. A myriad of nascent technologies are now stepping up, poised to redefine and reshape sustainability development, carbon accounting and reporting paradigms. AI is emerging as a powerful technology that impact almost every aspect of future sustainability development model, whereas blockchain is a decentralized, transparent platform that fosters trust, amplifying communication and collaboration across organizational strata and extensive supply chains. The innovative approaches can potentially alleviate agency dilemmas, bridge information gaps, curtail transactional expenditures, and bolster stakeholder interactions, thus fortifying the technological arsenal for sustainable transformation toward carbon neutrality.
