Abstract

This chapter describes some of the trajectories of recent technological advances in the Italian healthcare sector and their implications for work and workplace organization. Through qualitative analysis, including semi-structured interviews with various professionals, visits to different hospitals and clinics, and desk research, we focus on digital technologies for remote patient monitoring and virtual care. Particular attention is devoted to how these medical innovations have altered the routines and tasks of health professionals, as well as the array of organizational rearrangements occurring at the workplace level.
