Abstract

Markets, in theory, are about resolving individuals’ varying views about the value of goods and services; dispassionate and impersonal interaction is the supposed process. David Henner argued that he had acted on this basis with his shell egg futures deals. Yet his gift of three of the contracts he acquired when he bought the board and made his final limit-up bid suggests dealings in a free wheeling open outcry market are not always dispassionate and impersonal, just as a look at the analysis underlying his mistakenly bullish stance might.
