Abstract

Entrepreneurship and SME financing are essential topics in development finance as well as for policymakers and development partners, as they require a unique approach to their financing. This chapter discusses market trends and empirical studies on financial technology (FinTech) to unlock and scale up financing for entrepreneurship and SMEs in developing and emerging economies. Market trends and empirical evidence suggest that FinTech and digital finance advancement stimulate entrepreneurship and SMEs’ financing and growth, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through job and wealth creation, inclusive growth and poverty eradication in developing and emerging countries.
