Abstract

Chiunque abbia partecipato al processo decisionale in un organismo accademico o in un organo politico ha “praticamente” compreso il significato del Teorema di Arrow. Infatti, l’esperienza millenaria della nostra specie, almeno da quando esiste la scrittura, mostra che non è possibile trovare un insieme di regole che garantisca che un tale organo possa sempre formulare le decisioni necessarie e, allo stesso tempo, essere sicuri che tali decisioni, sempre in modo equo e fedele, riflettano le opinioni di tutti i suoi membri. In realtà, in quelle situazioni in cui ogni membro dell’organo è in grado di esprimere il proprio punto di vista in modo equo, allora spesso l’organo collegiale non riesce a formulare una scelta razionale (come definita da Arrow).
