Abstract

In the past two decades, there has been a significant increase in scholarly research on proactive behavior. However, it has not yet become a cohesive research area within the field of Industrial and organizational behavior. However, a consequence of the perpetually changing work environment and escalating workplace expectations, it has become critical for individuals to be proactive in order to keep up with the pace of change. Proactivity entails the capacity to anticipate issues or worries and devise solutions to avert unfavorable consequences or prepare for advantageous results, whereas reactive action is primarily prompted by past occurrences. However, the mental health of employees is being significantly impacted by both sorts, either directly or indirectly. This chapter examines the behavior of individuals with proactive personalities and how it relates to their work performance and subsequent career results. The organizational managerial systems should promote socialization, innovation, and other factors to achieve productive outcomes, which ultimately impact employees’ mental health in numerous capacities. Employees’ proactive activity enables them to fulfil their psychological and social requirements, leading to increased commitment to their work and organization. It also serves as motivation for them to enhance their skills in various areas. However, there isn’t as much research to back up the advantages of proactive conduct for mental health because it can cause stress, require a lot of practice, and require constant awareness, all of which might impair mental health.
