Gödels Doktorarbeit, 1928–30: Die Vollständigkeit der Axiome des logischen Funktionenkalküls

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Der genaue Zeitpunkt, an dem sich Kurt Gödel für ein Dissertationsthema entschied und mit dem Verfassen seiner Dissertation begann, ist nicht bekannt – ebenso wenig, ob sein Mentor Hans Hahn oder ein anderer seiner Wiener Zeitgenossen auf ihn eingewirkt haben. Es ist jedoch sehr wahrscheinlich, aus seinen Antworten auf den Grandjean-Fragebogen, seinem Briefwechsel mit Hao Wang, Notizen in seinem Nachlass und der Einleitung zu seiner Dissertation, dass seine Themenwahl von Brouwers Vorlesungen in Wien im März 1928 und von seinen Lektüren von Russell und Whitehead (1910–13) (PM) und von Hilbert und Ackermann (1928) (HA) im Jahr 1928 und Anfang 1929 beeinflusst wurde. Vermutlich spielten auch seine Kontakte mit Rudolf Carnap eine Rolle: nicht nur Carnaps Seminar über die Grundlagen der theoretischen Logik, das er 1928/29 anbot und das Gödel besuchte, sondern auch ihre vielen Diskussionen über mathematische Logik, die 1927 begannen und in Carnaps Tagebüchern dokumentiert sind.
