Abstract

Zusammenfassung Im Oktober 1924, einige Monate nach Abschluss seiner Matura in Brünn, ging Kurt Gödel nach Wien, um sein Universitätsstudium dort zu beginnen. Er wohnte zunächst in einer Wohnung in der Florianigasse 42 im 8. Wiener Bezirk, der Josefstadt (siehe Abb. 4.1 und 4.2), zusammen mit seinem Bruder Rudolf. Sie lebten dort für 2-½ Jahre, bis April 1927. Die Wohnung befand sich in einiger Entfernung hinter dem Rathaus, etwa 800 m westlich der Universität. Wien im Jahre 1924 war ein außergewöhnlicher Ort. Nur wenige Jahre zuvor war es die kaiserliche Hauptstadt eines weitläufigen Reiches gewesen, das den größten Teil Mitteleuropas umfasste und in dem ein Dutzend Ethnien mit jeweils eigener Sprache und Kultur lebten. Nun war es seit Ende 1918 immer noch eine Hauptstadt, aber nur noch einer kleinen "Alpenrepublik", vergleichsweise homogen, in der praktisch alle Einwohner Deutsch sparchen. Die Stadt selbst hatte jedoch ihr kosmopolitisches Flair nicht über Nacht verloren.
