Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Stadt Brünn liegt zwischen den beiden alten Kaiserstädten Prag und Wien. Tatsächlich handelt es sich um das einzige städtische Gebiet von größerer Bedeutung zwischen ihnen, etwa 130 km nördlich von Wien und 185 km südöstlich von Prag. Die moderne Stadt ist unter ihrem tschechischen Namen Brno bekannt. Sie ist die zweitgrößte Stadt in der Tschechischen Republik, nach Prag, und die tschechisch-österreichische Grenze verläuft in einer Ost-West-Richtung etwa auf halbem Weg zwischen Brünn/Brno und Wien. Vor dem Zusammenbruch der Habsburger-monarchie im Jahr 1918 und der anschließenden Gründung der 1. Tschechoslowakischen Republik war Brünn eine Provinzhauptstadt im österreichisch-ungarischen Kaiserreich (sie war die Hauptstadt der Provinz Mähren).
