Abstract

This Handbook offers a comprehensive survey of the story of mathematics and its practices. It is neither her story, nor his story, but story. In order to do so, the 100+ chapters spanning 3200+ pages in four volumes examine our collective mathematical practices over time and ways in which this shaped its history and philosophy. “Mathematical practice” is left as an undefined term in order to allow the reader to conceptualize it in whatever way they choose to. The book was inspired by conversations with three eminent souls Reuben HershHersh, Reuben, Yuri Manin, and Chandler Davis and is dedicated to them in memoriam.
