Abstract

There are several cognitive competencies of the human brain that could constitute an enigma. Thinking is one of those. Thinking seems to be the most complex and most demanding of cognitive competencies. It is a system with inputs, transformation processes, and ultimately, an output. Inputs are drawn from different strata of the brain. Transformation relies on multiple neural and synaptic flows and output demands a multiple of cognitive competencies. This will be the focus of the following chapter. The chapter starts with a broad analysis of the brain and the nervous system. This is followed by an analysis of the position and role of neurons and the derived thinking competencies. The chapter concludes with an exploration of the relationship between thinking and reasoning and learning.
