On the Influence of the Signal to Noise Ratio on the Reconstruction of the Non-linear Transfer Function in Signal Amplification

Abstract

In the present contribution we analyse the influence of the signal to noise ratio in the reconstruction of the non-linear transfer function for digital amplifier simulations and signal modulation in audio engineering applications. To this end a known response to a given input signal is combined to generate a Lissajous like figure in the complex plane, where the real part is the input and the imaginary part the output signal. In order to render these experiments more realistic we superimpose white noise with varying intensity to the input signal and use a modified version of our recently published approach to reconstruct the non-linear transfer function of a Wiener-Hammerstein system. For a given non-linear transfer function we show how signal to noise ratio and the number of closed loops in the complex Lissajous plane allowed to extract a fairly good similarity between the simulated and the original output signals. Finally, possible future developments and improvements of the proposed approach are presented.
