Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been increasingly adopted in the business operations of companies over the last 15+ and has shown a positive contribution to business performance while supporting international expansion of firms. In this sense, the chapter critically analyzes the impact of AI on the current international business scenario, discusses the challenges presented for companies and society and presents the future trends and expected impacts of this technology. The discussion shows that while AI increases productivity, facilitates cross-cultural communication (and as a consequence, international negotiations), and enables knowledge management exchange, among other benefits for the international expansion of firms, AI’s real impact in international business is developing gradually and will only be evident in the medium term. The chapter also analyzes today’s major challenges: (i) widening the gap in the adoption and implementation of AI among countries, companies, and workers, and (ii) adapting trade rules and regulations to a context increasingly influenced by new technologies.
