Abstract

Based on the current funding model for UK higher education institutions (HEIs) and the increasing demand among students from emerging markets interested in cross-border qualifications wishing to study in the UK, the educational landscape has shifted dramatically. The significance of internationalisation within academic institutions as a concept needs to be acknowledged and addressed. These circumstances point to a crucial and increasing need for greater interculturality in the classroom to be fostered and nurtured to benefit both the individual and the student community. The Community of Practice is examined as being core to approaching inclusive teaching practices. A widening set of intercultural principles and inclusive teaching practices must be firmly rooted throughout the entire institution to meet the individual needs of students based on their experiences and attainment levels which in turn will benefit HEIs in terms of student satisfaction, reputation and recruitment.
