Abstract

Money, Bank Credit, and Economic Cycles is probably the best-known and most influential work of Jesús Huerta de Soto. Since its publication in 1998 has been translated into more than twenty languages and has reached a wide audience. This chapter considers its intellectual relevance by first looking at some aspects of the evolution of economic science and economic treatises, considering the historical importance of this genre and its unfortunate decline. Later we will establish the main elements that can be identified as characteristic features of the Austrian tradition. Finally, we will assess how Huerta de Soto’s treatise can be said to represent a remarkable work within that tradition.
