Economic Consequences of a Hypothetical Secession

Abstract

The secession of Catalonia from the rest of Spain will not happen. We Catalans do not want it and it would be extraordinarily prejudicial for everyone in all fields, political, social and economic. If it were to happen, a hypothetical separation of Catalonia would change all political, social and economic relations. With regard to politics, it would depend on how secession was brought about (degree of violence) and of the final result (separation only of the separatist areas of Catalonia, or separation of the entire territory of Catalonia).
