Abstract

This chapter looks at the Venezuelan crisis against the background of four other raging displacement tragedies in the world. These are Syria, South Sudan, Myanmar and Afghanistan and examine the treatment of displaced human beings in Syria and South Sudan. It also looks at the approach of Costa Rica and Panama towards refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants in the AmericasAmericas and focuses on a possible approach to resolution of the challenges posed by Venezuelan migrants to Trinidad and TobagoTrinidad and Tobago. Beyond this, the chapter advocates a collaborative approach by the world system to manage and resolve the crisis and a hemispheric approach which addresses the challenge of inequality within countries and economic disparities among countries by forging an agenda of trade, investmentInvestment, flows of finance and movement of people in a zone of Peace and Prosperity and Sustainability in the Western HemisphereWestern Hemisphere.
