Abstract

Since in the remaining part of this text we will study various crossed products associated to quantum groups, it makes sense to begin with a small chapter on crossed products of C∗-dynamical systems of locally compact groups. Such systems are defined just as von Neumann dynamical systems except for the fact that we consider continuity with respect to norm. A crossed product is then a certain C∗-algebra describing the dynamical system. This interplay between dynamical systems and C∗-algebras is useful for studying such systems by C∗-algebra techniques, and conversely, in constructing new C∗-algebras from old ones by introducing such systems.
