Abstract

The significance of servant leadership is becoming an increasingly eminent factor for the success of business organizations. However, only a little is known about how to drive servant leaders to manage organizations in a sustainable manner. This chapter highlights the potential role of spirituality as a driving force in transforming servant leaders into making their behavior sustainable. The science of spirituality reveals that each human being is connected with self, others, and nature but they are unable to feel their connectedness and act accordingly until they grow. Similarly, a servant leader is someone who should feel connected with self, others, and nature so that he/she could serve followers unselfishly. On the other hand, if any organization is to conduct its business in a sustainable manner, it should give equal priority to profit, people, and the planet. To do so, its leadership should be able to feel connected with self, others, and nature. Thus, it is interesting to see how spirituality becomes a driving force in transforming servant leaders to act in a sustainable manner.
