Abstract

The promise of easy money seduced three generations of young people. There’s no more compelling image for the times than the cover art for Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album, released in 1991. That image featured a baby floating in water being lured by a dollar on a hook. It represented precisely the dominant theme of the times. This chapter illustrates how those in power were trying to lure a new generation into accepting greed, self-interest, and the love of money as the guiding principles of their lives.
