Abstract

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are a type of system that combines computer, networking, and physical processes in a single system. Academics, industry, and government are all interested in CPS right now. One of the most significant research subjects surrounding CPS is the study of its applications, due to the wide variety of CPS applications. The last comprehensive review paper on CPS applications was conducted by (Chen, J Industrial Integrat Manage 2(3), 2017a), who reviewed the literature 2012–2017. Due to a comprehensive study of the various applications of CPS that has not been conducted in the last few years, we reviewed 65 articles published between 2017 and 2022 for this study. Among these publications, the 49 journal papers are from 34 journals during the study period; other articles were conference papers. The challenges facing CPS, such as security and interoperability, were mentioned in the articles and studies reviewed in this study, indicating that, despite the many CPS applications, this concept is still in its early stages of development and requires numerous studies. This study demonstrated that there are active research domains in CPS.
