Abstract

In Chap. 6 , the development of a new or revision of an existing mission statement is explained. Section 6.1 highlights the relevance of overriding values and objectives of the company and shows that these are often summarized in the mission statement. Section 6.2 deals with the effects of a mission statement and proposes a useful structure. However, the mission statement can only fulfil its function as a normative framework if it reflects the values and objectives of important stakeholders. The stakeholder analysis is therefore considered as one task in the process for developing or revising the mission statement that is explained in Sect. 6.3.
