Abstract

The meaning of symbolic regression is illustrated via Kepler’s problem. The concept based on computer algebra is explained. Genetic algorithm to find the optimal tree structure is explained. Application of the Pareto-front for selecting optimal model ensuring a trade-off between complexity and precision is discussed. Numerical 1D and 2D examples are given to demonstrate this technique.
