Abstract

Directed quantities of the same type can be added and multiplied by scalars and, therefore, they constitute linear spaces—this is explained in Sect. 2.1. In each of the linear spaces, bases can be introduced and dimensions of the spaces determined. The coefficients of expanding a given quantity in the basis are called coordinates, not components, because the two notions can be ascribed to one vector and should be distinguished.
