Abstract

To justify or explain that certain systems or devices are governed by simple, generally uniform laws of probability (such as integers between 1 and 36 for roulette, or small planets on the Zodiac), Henri Poincaré proposed an original argument, which has since been referred to as the “principle of arbitrary functions”.
