Abstract

In this chapter the different methods for the analysis of a cross-over trial are discussed. Although there are different cross-over trial designs, the key issue in a cross-over trial is that the subject receives both the intervention and the control condition. For the analysis of data from a cross-over trial, this implicates that the intervention effect is estimated within the subject. This is different from a regular RCT in which the intervention effect is estimated between the subjects. In this chapter it is also discussed how to deal with the sequence in which the intervention and control condition are delivered to the subjects. This is important in light of possible carry-over effects and the length of the wash-out period.
