Abstract

This chapter focuses on the petrochemical sector of T&T with concentration on methanol production. It provides trends in production, prices and value added as well as a discussion associated with the state as an entrepreneur and the impetus of the Black Power Movement for changes in the energy sector as relates to petrochemicals. It concludes that the degree of competitiveness of the petrochemical sector has changes over time. On the external front T&T no longer has an abundance of natural gas nor does it have a high reserve to production ratio and as for the internal market, there is a decline in the production of gas and greater proportion of the gas is now going towards LNG in 2020 as compared to 2014. This raises the question of whether the country making the best use of its natural gas.
