Abstract

The idea of sharing instead of having and using rather than owning is not only a growing trend within our society but further plays a crucial role in reducing the social costs of mobility. Thus self-driving vehicles will reduce accidents, traffic jams, noise, and exhaust fumes, which in turn can help to reduce environmental pollution. It also opens up the possibility of deconstructing roads and parking lots and using the space gained, for example, for restaurants, stores, or apartments. However, a number of factors need to be considered to successfully manage and further unfold this trend. Critical will be a careful business model design, considering all the important players involved. Next to valuable insights on the general trend of mobility-as-a-service, thus the underlying article elaborates within detail on the key success factors of building and managing business models in this context.
