Abstract

In the chapters that follow this one, we will exploit certain results of Wendland (Math. Z., 101:61–64, 1967; Methoden Verfahren Math. Phys. 3:141–176,1970), on Fredholm operators in dual systems. The present chapter’s purpose is to introduce these results. We also recall some classical theorems of Functional Analysis in Banach spaces. We do not include proofs, however, as these can be found in monographs such as those of Kress (Linear integral equations, volume 82 of Applied Mathematical Sciences. Springer, New York, third edition, 2014.), Wloka et al. (Boundary value problems for elliptic systems. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1995), as well as in the above-mentioned papers of Wendland.
