Abstract

Research and empirical evidence concerning the post-market entry survival of African SMEs remains scarce. Even scarcer is research examining the internationalization behaviors of African SME international new ventures (INVs). This study addresses these gaps by exploring the internationalization behavior of Zambian SME INVs to North Africa. In addition, the study examines the key factors that determine the post-entry survival of African SME INVs. Drawing on a dynamic capability perspective we identify entrepreneurial initiatives and developing networks, niche market and product focus, along with transformation and renewal of existing capabilities as critical capabilities that enhance the post-entry survival of African SME INVs.
